Homo sapiens leaves Africa
about 60,000 years ago · From East Africa towards Asia, Europe and Australia

In short
About 60,000 years ago groups of Homo sapiens set out from Africa and spread into Asia, then Europe and Australia. Before them other small groups had already left, but they had no descendants. On the way they met other human species, such as the Neanderthals and the Denisovans, and a small trace of them remains in the DNA of many people today.
Why it matters It explains why humans live on every continent today.
